Calling for applications from indigenous youth!
The Youth Empowerment in Climate Action Platform (YECAP) is pleased to announce that the application is now open for the YECAP Indigenous Fellowship Programme 2022, in partnership with Asia Indigenous Youth Platform (AIYP) and offered by the convening partners of YECAP.
Introducing the new Fellowship Programme, YECAP and AIYP are inviting indigenous youth from the Asia region (Bangladesh, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Mainland India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Northeast India, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam) between 18-35 years old to apply for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to lead, represent and contribute to the YECAP Community by raising awareness among Asia-Pacific youth and engaging with climate advocates in relevant events and activities.
From brown bag sessions to consultations, dialogues and more on national, regional and global levels, this is a chance for indigenous youth to address climate issues and solutions by youth and for youth, to elevate youth voices in advocating for climate action priorities and systematic change, and to be part of larger youth movements.
YECAP Indigenous Fellowship Programme 2022 is a six-month comprehensive regional Indigenous youth-led Fellowship Programme to train Indigenous young leaders across Asia.
During this Fellowship Programme, YECAP will provide a platform for 20 indigenous youth across the Asia region to work with a diverse group of young climate activists who will join the fellowship to achieve the following objectives:
Identify indigenous young leaders in the community who are committed in addressing climate challenges;
Create a dedicated and safe space for fellows to share their stories, perspectives, and vision;
Develop capacities of participants with essential skills and knowledge for their climate actions; and
Foster learning, exchange, and collaboration among the indigenous communities in the Asia region.
The fellowship will include modules on climate education, community engagement, mobilization and outreach in broader networks, and opportunities for the fellows to work together as a collective and a personal capstone project.
This is an unpaid fellowship programme in which the selected fellows will work closely with the respective team leads and will be required to commit up to 4-5 hours per week.
To implement climate action knowledge and participate in official YECAP and affiliated activities throughout the Fellowship Journey, Fellows will get to build up local climate projects together through monthly virtually training and bonding time, opportunities to showcase the work on the ground, and offline meetup and dialogues with other indigenous fellows.
After completing the Fellowship, the Fellows will receive an official YECAP certificate and acknowledgement of their active participation and initiation throughout the programme. They will also stay in the supportive network of youth in climate action alumni.
The deadline for submitting the complete application is 11:59 pm (GMT+7) on 10 September 2022.
