YECAP Climate Action Week 2024

Date: 15-19 April

The YECAP Climate Action Week 2024 was a week-long virtual event consisting of peer-to-peer knowledge sharing, capacity-building sessions, and learning opportunities in the realm of well-being for change makers, and green jobs and careers through the Movers Programme. It also outlined the way forward from the 11th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) and the road to The Summit of the Future in 2024, in conjunction with the Asia and the Pacific Youth Symposium (APYS) led by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), ECOSOC Youth Forum 2024, ESCAP 80th Session of the Commission, and other key climate action opportunities for young people in Asia and the Pacific.

Objectives:

  1. Facilitate youth engagement in discussions related to the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) process, green transition, climate resilience, and leave no one behind

  2. Foster connections and networking opportunities among youth from across the Asia Pacific region, to drive meaningful climate conversations

  3. Empower youth to lead and spearhead conversations on pressing climate issues and challenges, fostering meaningful dialogue on the wellbeing of change makers

  4. Highlight the experiences of vulnerable communities including Indigenous Peoples, women and Persons with Disabilities, to ensure a whole-of-society approach to challenges and solutions around climate change

Delegates: Over 600 participants throughout the week 

  • Young climate activists and professionals, from backgrounds including research, nonprofit, science-policy interface, and policy

  • Other Youth Networks focusing on issues of climate change, biodiversity, energy, and oceans; minorities, gender issues, disabilities, economy and finance, media and others that are relevant to climate change issues

Speakers: Over 30 speakers from Asia and the Pacific

Pre-events

YECAPXMOVERS4CLIMATE

The “YECAPxMovers4Climate: Series of Climate Action” workshops were specifically targeted towards young individuals between 18 and 35 who had a strong interest in environmental sustainability and climate action. Young individuals from the Asia-Pacific region, who came from various backgrounds, including students, young professionals, activists, and volunteers, participated in this event.

YECAP Climate Action Week 2023

Date: 16-20 March

Organizers: YECAP Fellows from the third Cohort with the support of the YECAP Action Committee including all YECAP Co-conveners to introduce knowledge, tools and guidance to take further climate action in locally rooted communities and to connect youth individuals and communities across Asia and the Pacific

Objectives:

  1. Engage in meaningful conversations with experts from the climate fields

  2. Address the climate change reality that affects and threatens the future

  3. Address the local initiatives and effective partnerships in implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels in Asia and the Pacific

  4. Bring in diverse perspectives of people from vulnerable communities, including indigenous peoples

  5. Introduce the Road to 10th APFSD: Regional Dialogue on Youth Empowerment in Climate Action

Delegates: Over 500 participants throughout the week 

  • Young climate activists and professionals, from backgrounds including research, nonprofit, science-policy interface, and policy

  • Other Youth Networks focusing on issues of climate change, biodiversity, energy, and oceans; minorities, gender issues, disabilities, economy and finance, media and others that are relevant to climate change issues

YECAP Climate Action Week 2022

Date: 16-20 March

Organizers: YECAP Fellows by engaging young people with the support from the YECAP Action Committee including all YECAP Co-conveners to introduce knowledge, tools and guidance to take climate action in locally rooted communities and to connect youth individuals and communities across Asia and the Pacific

Objectives:

  1. Engage in meaningful conversations with experts from the fields of sustainable energy, climate change research, impact evaluation

  2. Address the climate change reality that affects and threatens the futures to young environmental human rights activists

  3. Bring in the diverse perspectives of people from vulnerable communities, including Indigenous peoples

  4. Introduce the Road to Stockholm+50 Regional Dialogue on Youth Empowerment in Climate Action

Delegates: Over 500 participants throughout the week 

  • Young climate activists and professionals, from backgrounds including research, nonprofit, science-policy interface, and policy

  • Other Youth Networks focusing on issues of climate change, biodiversity, energy, and oceans; minorities, gender issues, disabilities, economy and finance, media and others that are relevant to climate change issues

Speakers: Over 20 speakers from Asia and the Pacific
